Beautiful British Columbia, long the catch phrase of Canada’s most western province, is unarguably deserving of the description and is a popular destination—to live, to work, to visit. It should come as no surprise then that it is an equally desirable setting in which to wed. As the trend for destination weddings grows, the stunning coastline of this scenic province is quickly becoming the place to say "I do" and regardless of what vows might be exchanged, spouses-to-be can count on one promise at the big day–the attendance of Canada’s spectacular west coast scenery.
From the cosmopolitan cities of Vancouver and Victoria to the quiet coves and beautiful bays of the Sunshine Coast to the snow-capped peaks of the Coast Mountains that rise dramatically out of the Pacific waters, the coast of British Columbia has something to please every happy couple. Whether brides and grooms want a traditional heritage church, a five-star waterfront hotel, a quiet retreat on an island bay or even the ski slopes of Whistler, the following locations and venues are a selection of what the area has to offer.
SOMETHING OLD
For couples wishing to match the historic occasion with an equally historic venue, choices range from charming one-room chapels to century-old mansions.
Heritage Churches Vancouver and its surrounding communities have several quaint heritage churches that offer simple, sweet atmospheres and intimate environments. The Chapel at Minoru Park in Richmond (1891) and Milner Chapel in Langley are lovely white clapboard structures with traditional features and beautiful gardens. Similarly, couples who choose the White Album Wedding Chapel (1886) or the church at the Burnaby Village Museum (1920s) will be walking up the aisle in the company of those from a century ago. Newlyweds at the Burnaby church can even ride off into the sunset on the museum's vintage 1912 carousel.
